Okay so I just wanted to start posting on this blog with stuff that I really love because otherwise it's just Gladeyes news and well......... you know.
Anyways, my flatmate introduced me to Alison Bechdel about a year ago when she recommended her book
Fun Home and ever since then I have been completely hooked.
Fun Home is a graphic novel/book about Bechdel's Dad and all his exploits and about how he could never really come out. It's also about their relationship and her coming out story. It's smart funny and Alison Bechdel's illustrations are just amazing.
She also wrote and illustrated a comic series which started in 1983 and chronicles the lives of a group of "crunchy lesbian friends" (thanks NY times) called
Dykes to Watch Out For. The strip finished in 2008 and sees through break-ups, civil unions, protests, arguments amongst friends about a bunch of issues including trans-sexuality and the gay community. There is a compilation of the
Dykes to Watch Out For strips called
Essential Dykes to Watch Out For
, I picked this up and was totally hooked. Chances are they have a copy of
Dykes to Watch Out For in some form at your local library, so there's no excuse not to check it out.

So I came across her blog the other day and it's also fun and informative and awesome. http://dykestowatchoutfor.com/blog
